SharePoint Intranet Modernization

A Global Engineering and Technology Services Company - India

How a legacy intranet was modernized with Graph API, SPFx web parts, and a self-service HR portal that eliminated manual scripting overhead.

SharePoint Intranet Modernization

The organization’s SharePoint intranet had grown around a legacy PowerShell-based Active Directory sync that required manual maintenance and carried ongoing reliability risk. Performance issues with large list queries were affecting multiple sites, and HR needed a self-service job posting portal integrated with their existing Excel-based records. We modernized the entire stack - migrating AD sync to Graph API, resolving the list threshold issues, and building the IJP portal from scratch.

Business Challenge:

The intranet relied on a PowerShell script-based AD sync that was fragile, manually maintained, and not connected to the modern Microsoft 365 identity layer. SharePoint lists were hitting the 5,000-item query threshold and returning incomplete results. HR had no digital self-service channel for internal job postings and was managing the process manually through Excel and email.

Key Pain Points:

  • Legacy PowerShell AD sync requiring manual script maintenance
  • CAML query performance failures on lists exceeding the 5,000-item threshold
  • No self-service HR portal for internal job postings
  • Role-based access for the IJP portal required custom implementation
  • SPFx web part deployments needed versioning and governance

Solution:

We migrated the AD sync process from PowerShell to Power Automate with Azure App Registration and Graph API, removing the dependency on manual scripting entirely. CAML queries were rewritten with correct indexing and pagination to handle large lists without threshold errors. The IJP portal was built as a SharePoint site with a custom HR Excel integration layer and role-based permissions, and four SPFx web parts were developed and deployed across the intranet with version management.

Technology Stack:

SharePoint SPFx · TypeScript · Microsoft Graph API · Azure App Registration · Power Automate · CAML Queries

Results:

  • Legacy PowerShell AD sync fully replaced with Graph API automation
  • 5,000-item list threshold issue resolved across all affected sites
  • Internal Job Posting portal live with HR Excel integration
  • Zero manual scripting overhead for Active Directory synchronization
  • 4 SPFx web part versions successfully deployed and maintained
  • Ongoing support engagement retained post-delivery
